What Are the Top 3 Super Mini’s to Lease?

Seat Ibiza

1. Seat Ibiza

The Seat Ibiza is a great super mini that’s well-equipped, sporty to drive and reliable with a good range of economical engines. Although it’s practically the same car as the premium Volkswagen Polo, we recommend the Seat over VW’s offering because it’s cheaper and arguably better styled. The engine range includes a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder which we say avoid due to being underpowered, the 1.2 TDI, 1.6 TDI, 2.0 TDI, 1.2 TSI and 1.4 TSI. For those leasing a car that will be used on the motorways, we recommend the Seat Ibiza in FR trim coupled with a 1.6 TDI or 2.0 TDI engine. Both offer good performance and economy, at 65.7 mpg and 47.1 mpg respectively.

For those who don’t do motorway miles, the 1.4 TSI is an excellent engine choice with good performance and economy.

2. Peugeot 208

The Peugeot 208 is a splendid super mini that’s by far and away the best small car Peugeot have made in a long time, bar the cute 107. The 208 features a unique and stylish design along with a generous list of standard equipment even on the lowest specification models. Although it lacks the build quality of the Seat, it is more eye-catching and the interior feels even more sporty, if you opt for the right trim. Engines are strong – there’s the base 1.0 VTi which is the same engine as in the 107, but we recommend the stronger, better performing 1.4 HDi, which delivers good torque and refinement for the motorways. Unlike some diesel engines this is a smooth unit with a linear power delivery which doesn’t have to be driven hard to get the most out of it.

. The 1.4 HDi in active trim costs around £181.99 per month + VAT.

3. Fiat 500

The Fiat 500 is the smallest car on our list, but it’s also the most affordable rolling in at around £99.53 per month from our source linked to above. The Fiat 500 is a classy, gorgeous little car that punches well above its weight in many areas – the interior is deceptively spacious, and the personalisation available to new buyers and leasers is high. There are a few engines to choose from – the 1.2-litre petrol engine offers brisk performance and a quick throttle response, whilst the 1.3-litre diesel engine offers better torque and better fuel consumption. The 1.3 Multijet engine is also super refined and it feels like a petrol engine in many ways.

We recommend leasing a Fiat 500 in Lounge trim. This benefits from smart alloy wheels and Bluetooth as standard.
